Abe Vigoda

This band is fun, alot of fun.  Their name, their style, everything.  Think jungle pop with a Vampire Weekend sensibility.  One fall back I find is that the vocals are hidden amongst the music, sometimes undecipherable, especially for a pop band.  Overall, great band and great actor

I have been extremely caught up in the different facets of the rapidly developing electronic music scene in recent months (years really). A couple days ago I came across another blog entry featuring the artist Hudson Mohawke. Ross Birchard a.k.a. Hudson Mo, is a DJ/Producer from Glasgow Scottland. His field of expertise encompasses producing glitchy, wonky, hip-hop based electronic music. If you like hip-hop and electronic music or neither you should check this bloke out. Kill's it. Here's his essential mix off the BBC Radio One.

It's freezing. Beach (Boys) Party?
More hip-hop without the glitch, well, less of a glitch. Bullion is a sample based hip-hop producer from the U.K.. Although this isn't as current, when I first heard this album, I didn't stop hearing it for at least the next couple months. Bringing a J-Dilla influenced style of beat making and glitchy loops to the table, Bullion made a hip-hop mix tape composed of samples from "Pet Sounds" (Beach Boys). Check out this new found warmth...

Pool Party!

Since this semester is almost over and I'm completely disregarding any form of work I need to do, here is another post.

Pool Party! were a band from the Poughkeepsie, NY area (my hometown).  Kind of like a super group from the area, but only if you actually knew the bands they came from.  I would describe it along the lines of really pissed youth crew hardcore, but the music surpassing simple punk chords.  The only unfortunate thing about this band is that they weren't really good live, but their only demo (which was never officially released) does them justice.

Hood Rich/To The Teeth

This is a shameless plug, but I really don't care especially since we aren't really a band anymore.  Before I went away to college, I had a pretty tight band Hood Rich and then changed the name to To The Teeth because of all the hostility we received and bad name we were given by the public eye.  Calling us thug-core and only there to promote fights, bullshit.  We wrote some pretty fast stuff to on the verge of stoner doom.  Tons of fun while it lasted.  Here is our original demo to our last EP, both of which were originally free.  Only offical stuff we ever released if you can call it that since the demo was limited to like 30 and the EP was for anyone who bothered asking us for it.  Check it out.

P.S.
Here is a video of an original and a Cro Mags cover.  Check the dudes from Trash Talk going nuts.

Thou

This is the start of something beautiful, so hopefully everything works out.

My first post and want to share Thou with you.  I've always been a fan of lengthy songs because it gives me an excuse to say hold on until the song is over.  Now I especially like longer songs that are heavy, and this is everything that can describe heavy.  Droning masses of guitar noise, repeated riffs.  It is almost as if stoners kept the stoner rock mentality and then got heavier and added black metal to the sorts.  However, Thou add something else to the mix with elegant ambient passages in their songs, like a breath of fresh air before they assault your ears again.
